The Atlantis Data Publisher empowers the Snow® Report Writer engine with publishing capabilities.
In addition to getting direct access to all of your data, performing complex calculations and manipulating the data, NOW you can make it look real pretty too!
Publish your data into catalogs or other fancy documents that include pictures, shadow boxes, lines, circles -- from a full drawing tool palette!
The Atlantis Data Publisher does it all in one step. You design what you want to publish. And Atlantis finds the data and publishes it for you. You don't have to do "data downloads" first; Atlantis takes care of it all for you.
Previously available for 68K Macintosh and NOW also available for the Power Macintosh, check out the performance of this demo on the Power Macintosh! Then run it on another Macintosh, like a Quadra. BIG difference. Documents with sophisticated drawing renderings or complex mathematical calculations that used to take hours, can now run in minutes on the Power Macintosh!
To give you a look-see, this limited demo of the the Atlantis Data Publisher will give you a taste of what is available. Certain menu items have been de-activated and some functionality has been disabled. It will only output 25 records.
Here's a simple demo script to look at the Atlantis Data Publisher.
0. (Optional step) You will be able to run some things directly from the CD, but having the application on a disk that can be written to will allow you to do more things. If you have the room, copy the "Atlantis™ Data Publisher" folder from the CD over to your fixed disk. It only takes about 2.5 meg of disk space and can be trashed after you run the demo.
1. When you launch the Atlantis Data Publisher application, a sample design called Statement Report will automatically be loaded for you.
2. Choose the Publish menu item "Publish From Designer" to publish the data that goes with the sample design.
3. Say 'OK' to the output options.
4. You will see the sample report being published into a new window.
5. Close the Published Statement Report window to return to the sample design and enhance the design.
6. There are two "layers" in the Atlantis designer: the "object drawing" layer and the underlying "word processing" layer. You can use the Tool palette to draw objects, insert pictures, etc. into the object layer. If you have a text object open and selected, you can use the Data menu "Choose a Field" item to include fields into the text object.
7. Or, you can close the tool palette to close the object layer and work directly in the underlying "word processing" layer. Simply type in text like you do with a word processor, for headers, etc.
8. To insert data into the design, first click down the cursor to establish your insertion point. Be sure that you have a simple insertion point. If a hilite selection is showing, this area of the design will be replaced. Now use the Data menu "Choose a Field" item to include fields into the design where the insertion point is. Re-open the Tool palette with the Layout menu "Open Tools" in order to re-show the object layer.
9. Choose the Publish menu item "Publish From Designer" to publish your new design.
To summarize, with the Atlantis Data Publisher there are two steps to publishing data. First, Design the publication. Then choose Publish From Designer to publish the document.
The Design step itself has two steps. For new designs, use the Data menu to "Choose the File" that you want to read data from. Then "Choose a Field" with the insertion point in the design where you want data to appear. When you have chosen each of the fields you want, use the drawing tool palette to fancy up the way the published document will look. Simple.
